A beachy afternoon

We met friends at the beach and spent the afternoon watching the girls splash in the rough surf. Fashionizta Izzy modeled her vintage sunnies and the mothers chatted. Lovely.

oops

I took a bunch of 26 10th graders to the beach the other day for sport. We arrived and it was chaos 'Can you wear my watch?' 'Do we have to wear rashies?' 'Can we leave our stuff here?' 'My ipod's in my bag.' 'Please can we go into the shed and get our boards?' etc. Then suddenly they were mostly gone and I was alone with the bags and shoes. I looked at the beach and saw a bunch way away from the area I told them to stay in. I asked the last straggler, "Are those our boys?" He said, 'Yeah, that's Josh and the others." Oh I was livid. I asked a life guard but he couldn't help because their PA was broken. So I marched way up the beach to yell at them. I finally got there and waved them in. Three came straight away but three dawdled and I thought 'just wait until I get them!' And the first one got close and I started laughing. It wasn't my boys at all! It was a bunch of Italian tourists, spunky young men who definitely weren't 15 years old. And we laughed and I explained and they said they had been afraid they weren't allowed to swim there. I said 'Scusa, mi dispiace.' a dozen times and we had another laugh and they went back into the surf.

Izzy

Izzy was so comfortable in the water, and was always one of the first off and last on the boat. In the top photo, she is waving her hand over a feather star. The shadow makes the Christmas tree shaped creatures pop into their little hole, like magic.

Under the sea

From bottom to top the photos are: the happy family on the Wavelength boat, Hubby and me, Hubby, Dellylu, and me. We had a great time. It was Delllylu's first snorkle trip, and she did really well.

Cairns again

Well, this might be my last post until we get back home, since Hubby is taking my only means of internet access. He has been sent to the GOLD COAST! oh well..... We went to Rusty's market, where the locals shop. Izzy tried a coconut drink and a samosa, and the grown ups had a black sticky rice, coconut milk and taro pudding, but Dellylu stuck to more traditional fare. Izzy tried on a seaweed wig, and we admired the view from the road between Port Douglas and Cairns.

Cairns

Enjoying the lagoon in Cairns, because you can't swim at the beach. Stingers will get you! The girls fueled up at a pattiserie after playing with Dad. Snorkeling is tomorrow, so they were tucked into bed early.

a nice surprise

I had a message at work to ring hubby, and was most alarmed. He has never done that before. What a relief to hear he was leaving the Gold Coast to work in Cairns, and had booked the family an eight day holiday. He'd taken care of accommodation, flights and our favourite house sitter. Great Barrier Reef here we come!

Beach Girls

We went to the beach this afternoon. The girls just love it. Dellylu rolls in the sand until she's coated like a crumbed cutlet. They left the surf boards in the car and just splashed around. The waves were small and the water looked like Galveston. Usually it's more like the Carribean!
